PUBLIC SERVICES

Be a force for good

Without the Public Services, the UK simply could not operate. From the Emergency Services to the Police Force, the events of the last year alone have highlighted the importance of these services to this country, and to the world.

Choosing a career in this sector is a dedication to protecting, serving, and enforcing what is right. Whether you've got your sights set on becoming a Police Officer or joining the Armed Forces, you can expect to get a broad understanding of how these units operate, and the dedicated training you must go through to reach your goals.

What are the career opportunities?

Once you're into the Public Services, the progression opportunities are endless.

Jobs you could get include, but are not limited to:

  • Police Officer
  • Firefighter
  • Prison Officer
  • RAF Officer
  • Security Manager
  • Civil Enforcement Officer
  • Border Control

Once you're in these kinds of roles, you will be supported by your managers and senior members of staff to progress or specialise in certain areas.

What are the steps to get there? Once you've completed your Advanced (Level 3) qualification, there are lots of different options open to you. What you choose to do depends on your goal - have you got your mindset on a certain specialism, or do you want to develop more technical knowledge first? Your options are:

Apprenticeships

Take what you've learnt on your course and apply it to a role within the industry, where you will experience life in the workplace a few days a week, as well as continue to learn in college. Lots of different sectors of the Uniformed Public Services have their own apprenticeship schemes - do some research and see what catches your eye.

Undergraduate Study

If you want to further your knowledge in your chosen specialism, we offer Public Services HNC & HND right here at the College. Your Advanced (Level 3) qualification will give you UCAS points to apply to university - make sure you do your research and think about if going to university will help you reach your goals.

Employment

You could search for an entry-level position with a company, where you will take the next step on your career journey. You will also be able to apply for the RAF or the Armed Forces.
