CARE PROFESSIONS

Health & Social Care

Whether your ambition is to become a nurse or a midwife, or you're not quite sure yet but you know you want to help people, this is the perfect place to gather the relevant skills and experience needed to take the next step.

As well as gaining the technical knowledge and skills required to work in health care, you must be compassionate, caring and patient.

Childcare

Early Years Workers are responsible for caring, nurturing and influencing the next generation. From birth to primary education, children learn through play, discovery and experiencing the world around them.

Early experiences can shape a child into the adult they'll become. It could be your job to influence and encourage children to be independent and make the right choices in life.

NEW FOR 2021

T Level in Education & Childcare

Through this new 2-year technical qualification you’ll gain an understanding of a range of core subjects including child development, special educational needs and disability and safeguarding, health and safety and will develop your skills through an industry placement, working and learning in real life settings such as early years nurseries and primary schools.

What's next?

Once you've got your Level 3 qualification in the bag, you can take the next step to reach your goal. The great thing about studying Care Professions is that you'll collect over 300 hours of practical work experience, dependent on level. Employers will practically be begging you to join them!

You could progress to university to refine your knowledge of your chosen subject, such as Midwifery, Children's Nursery, Social Care, or Education and much more.

You could also find an apprenticeship, which is particularly popular for Early Years Educators.

With all your experience and knowledge, you could also progress into an entry-level role, such as a Health Care Assistant or Early Years Assistant, and work your way up the ladder.

Caring Careers

Studying a Care Professions qualification will allow you to focus on your chosen specialism, or go into a generic healthcare position. Depending on your passion and your personal goals, you could go on to become a:

  • Adult Nurse
  • Midwife
  • Children's Nurse
  • Social Worker
  • Early Years Practitioner
  • Nursery Nurse
  • Support Worker
  • Care Home Manager
  • Carer

Introducing the Nurse Cadets

We have teamed up with Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to offer our Health and Social Care students unique on-the-job experience, helping them to take their first steps towards becoming qualified nurses and healthcare practitioners.

In 2019/2020 we had 21 students become nurse cadets and experience life on different wards across the hospital.
